The Academy of Arts

Drama Seminar Camp - October 3rd-7th

Auditions: In-person Aug.21st, or send Video by Aug.26th.

What is a Drama Seminar?

If you're interested in theatre arts or acting and you have not yet heard of the Academy of Arts

in Taylors, SC you will absolutely want to look them up - TheAcademyofArts.org

We have the opportunity to bring them here to the Knoxville area to put on a week-long intensive theatre camp for teens that is like NOTHING they've ever experienced before!! This is a professional-level Christian theatre school, and you'll be blown away at what they teach their students in just one week!!

The Academy is sending a team of their directors and leaders, along with a big trailer full of everything they need to equip and train students to put on an incredible, 1 hour and 40minute,full-stage production - costumes, lighting, sound/tech equipment, and even the tools and materials to build the set!

But it goes so much deeper than that! The students will experience ALL of the elements that go into a full-stage production, as well as learn communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. Valuable character lessons are also weaved into the experience.

And on top of the incredible educational experience, homeschooled high school students can earn

a HALF elective credit (0.5)for Drama/Theater Arts!!

(If you have any questions about this, just let me know.)

Interested?

We are accepting a maximum of 60 students for this production.

Contact coordinator, Evangella Stavros, at allington23@gmail.com ASAP to register and reserve your spot, and so we can send you the info/audition packet.

Please use "AOA Drama Seminar" in your subject line.

Also, please specify if you will be attending in-person Auditions on August 21st,

Auditions:

In-person auditions will be held on August 21st, from 2 to 5 at The Grove Theater in Oak Ridge.

ALL who register WILL be cast in the play, but to give the students the opportunity to practice their audition skills (communication, presentation, preparedness, emotional management, etc.), they are asked to attend a "callback" style in-person audition to "try out" for the roles of their choice. They do not need to prepare a monologue or song. Auditions will be done as group readings.

This allows them the valuable experience of reading "off the cuff" for multiple roles, and taking direction to see how quickly they can apply the feedback. This also help us cast the students beforehand and give out scripts so they can learn their lines before the camp begins in October.

If unable to attend in-person auditions, just let us know when you register, and we'll provide directions to send in a video audition (no later than Friday, August 26th).

If you have any questions regarding this, please email allington23@gmail.com .

More info about the show that the students will perform at this Drama Seminar/Theater Camp:

Set during the time of Nazi oppression, The Lions of Trondheim tells the captivating and true story of the Norwegian resistance against Hitler - secretly happening in the face of overwhelming odds. Follow the storyline of these brave patriots of the village of Trondheim as they work to uncover the unknown enemy within and undermine the Nazis without.

This show has it all - action, drama, suspense, heart, and even a little dose of humor! That being said, it is a story about war, and some scenes may be considered heavy for younger viewers or students who might be more sensitive to things of that nature, and for that reason we rate it PG-13, and advise viewer discretion. The content is respectfully handled and contains nothing gratuitous. If you have any questions about this, don't hesitate to ask.
